My work rests upon a deep respect for children. Blending my special education background with my training in attachment and psychodynamic theories, I am able to provide a unique understanding of a child’s developmental struggles, themes and conflicts.
My work with children is integrative, pragmatic and collaborative. I try to work through the child’s most important relationships. I use a consultation model, supporting parents and teachers to implement behavioral strategies and positive discipline principles.
In addition to child-centered play therapy, I also draw upon Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and social skills/flexibility training for children on the autism spectrum.
I believe children use many languages to express their inner worlds. In my playroom (located in Springfield, NJ), a sand tray invites children to explore and symbolize their experiences, books celebrate diversity and embrace big emotions, and a castle and dollhouse are spaces for imaginative play, problem-solving and social understanding.
Just as adults need space to talk, children need space to play. Through play, they process their world, express their emotions, and explore new ideas. Play is their language, a vital form of communication and learning that allows them to make sense of their experiences and grow.
Having worked in middle schools and high schools, I have a deep passion for working with adolescents and young adults. They too find art therapy and sand tray therapy meaningful and engaging. For many years, I served as a GSA advisor, advocating for LGBTQ-affirmative curriculum in schools. I take great joy in helping students navigate the complexities of identity, relationships, and their aspirations for the future. It's incredibly rewarding to support them through such a transformative time in their lives.
